Police seized an illegally modified e-bike in Acton on Tuesday (4 August 2026) after its rider allegedly ignored a red light, as officers continued their crackdown on dangerous riding following complaints from local residents.
Neighbourhood officers were on patrol on Uxbridge Road, near Twyford Gardens, when they saw the rider fail to stop at a pedestrian crossing.
Police said the rider turned around and cycled away when officers tried to stop him near the junction with Crown Street. He was followed towards Gunnersbury Lane before being detained on Mill Hill Road. The e-bike was then seized and the rider was reported for alleged offences under the Road Traffic Act.
Officers found the bike was capable of reaching 48km/h (around 30mph). In the UK, electrically assisted pedal cycles must stop providing motor assistance above 25km/h (15.5mph) to remain road legal.
Sergeant Matthew Buckland, from the Metropolitan Police’s Acton neighbourhood team, said: “We will continue to act on concerns raised by residents and target those who use the roads unlawfully and put others at risk.”
