All households across Ealing’s seven towns will be subject to hosepipe restrictions from Thursday (23 July 2026) after Thames Water became the second of the borough’s two water suppliers to introduce a temporary ban.
The Thames Water ban comes into force on Thursday (23 July 2026), extending restrictions across the borough after Affinity Water introduced a ban on 17 July 2026 affecting customers in Greenford, Northolt, Perivale and much of Southall.
With Thames Water supplying other parts of the borough, residents across Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt, Perivale and Southall will be covered by one of the two bans.
Under the restrictions, customers cannot use a hosepipe for activities including watering gardens, washing cars, cleaning windows or patios and filling swimming or paddling pools. Exemptions apply in some circumstances, including for people with certain medical or mobility needs.
Thames Water said it was introducing the ban following prolonged dry weather and recent heatwaves, very low rainfall, higher-than-normal water demand and forecasts for continued hot and dry weather.
The company said: “We’ve been working around the clock to maintain water supplies, but we now need everyone’s help to reduce non-essential water use.”
Affinity Water previously said water demand was around 20% higher than normal and that groundwater levels had continued to fall following a dry spring.
It said: “Introducing a hosepipe ban now is how we protect supplies for our communities, especially those who are most vulnerable, and for the environment.”
Both Affinity Water and Thames Water say customers who ignore hosepipe restrictions without a valid exemption could face a fine of up to £1,000.
