Ealing Film Festival helps open doors for UWL student filmmakers

Students from Ealing’s University of West London students are gaining industry experience and career opportunities after showcasing their work at the Ealing Film Festival.

Media and communications student Karyna Fedorchuk said her documentary Solo, which was screened as part of the festival’s emerging talent programme at Ealing Picturehouse last year, had already led to work experience with the festival, a week-long placement on a professional film set and the prospect of paid work.

Visual Effects graduate Rushil Vyas also enjoyed success after his short film Ape of the Unknown was selected for the festival.

Their achievements were celebrated during a recent event at UWL’s London School of Film, Media and Design, where award-winning director Rebecca Rose screened her film The Removed, winner of Best Narrative Drama at last year’s Ealing Film Festival, before answering students’ questions about working in the industry.

Festival director Russell England said the partnership with UWL would continue ahead of this year’s Ealing Film Festival, which takes place from 15 to 18 October 2026, with more student screenings, workshops and volunteering opportunities planned.
