Halifax to shut Ealing Broadway branch in September

Halifax is to close its Ealing Broadway branch in September, leaving Southall as the bank’s only remaining branch in the borough, as parent company Lloyds Banking Group today (1 July 2026) announced it will phase out the Halifax brand across the UK.

The decision to shut the branch on 29 September 2026 followed a review of the Ealing Broadway branch by Halifax, which found that 1,141 customers had used it regularly during at least four of the previous six months. Of those, 42% only use the Ealing Broadway branch and no other Halifax branch.

Lloyds Banking Group said Halifax branches across the UK will either be rebranded as Lloyds or, where there is already a nearby Lloyds branch, customers will instead be served from that branch throughout 2027. It said there would be “no changes to previously announced plans for branches”, meaning the Ealing Broadway closure will still go ahead as planned.

The closure continues the gradual reduction in Halifax’s presence across Ealing, following the closure of its West Ealing branch around a decade ago and its Greenford branch last month (16 June 2026). Southall will become Halifax’s only remaining branch in the borough as Lloyds Banking Group begins its nationwide transition away from the Halifax brand.

The review also revealed that many of the Ealing Broadway branch’s regular customers are older. Around 32% are aged 55 to 74, while a further 10% are aged 75 or over. Customers aged 35 to 54 account for 36% of regular users, with 19% aged 18 to 34.

Halifax said the decision reflected changing customer behaviour as more people chose to bank online or by phone. The review found 94% of customers also use other banking services, including the mobile app, online and telephone banking, while 23% already use Post Office banking services.

Since early 2025, customers have also been able to use branches across Lloyds Banking Group’s banking brands, meaning Halifax customers can carry out everyday transactions at the nearby Lloyds Bank branch in Ealing Broadway.
