A new community mural celebrating South Acton’s history has been installed at South Acton station after local residents helped design every element of the artwork.
Installed at the station on the London Overground’s Mildmay line, the mural pays tribute to Mildmay Hospital, which gave the line its name, and features references to the NHS, Soapsud Island and the filming of Only Fools and Horses.
The mural, which was unveiled on 17 June 2026, was commissioned by First Rail London in partnership with Vistry and community arts organisation Artyface. It was developed through a series of workshops led by local artist Maud Milton, with residents contributing their own drawings, memories and ideas to the finished piece.
Ms Milton, artist at Artyface, said: “The South Acton mosaic is really about the whole community; people get to own public spaces and become stakeholders in them.
“At the heart of this project is putting people’s history and their stories into the piece. Although I’m the artist, I wouldn’t say it’s just mine because everyone in the community has contributed to its creation.”
