Fiona Hinds, a parent and committee member at the Acton-based Descendants, has completed the London Marathon, raising funds for the charity and Black Trail Runners.
Ms Hinds, who lives in Greenford, finished the 26.2-mile race in 5 hours, 35 minutes and 19 seconds on Sunday (26 April 2026), raising £945 — exceeding her £500 target. She took on the challenge in support of Descendants’ 21st Anniversary Achievement Awards, due to take place in July. The charity works with young people of African and Caribbean heritage across Ealing, recognising their achievements and supporting their development.
Each mile of the marathon represented a year of the awards’ impact, marking more than two decades of work within the community.
It was her second fundraising challenge for Descendants, following her participation in the Vitality Run in 2025.
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Ms Hinds, said: “I felt so proud representing Descendants and Black Trail Runners on what was a historic day for London. The London marathon isn’t just a race; it’s a masterclass presentation of respect, appreciation, and the love of humanity.
“Seeing people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds pushing their limits alongside you makes you more determined than ever to keep going. When the walls hit in the latter miles, it was the thought of my causes and the energy of the crowds that somehow carried me through.”
She added that crossing the finish line left her feeling “so empowered” that she has already entered the ballot for 2027.
