Public asked to name hospital robots

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) is asking the public to help choose names for two new surgical robots based at Ealing Hospital in Southall and Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow.

The trust said the robots are expected to carry out around 700 procedures a year by 2027, helping surgeons perform more precise operations while improving recovery times and outcomes for patients.

LNWH chief executive Pippa Nightingale said: “We’re looking for some fun ideas and would really like our staff and the local community to get involved.

“We encourage all our staff to wear ‘My name is …’ badges to present a friendlier public face and that applies to our two newest employees.”

People are being invited to suggest a name for each robot, along with the relevant hospital, by emailing lnwh-tr.communications@nhs.net
and using “robot naming competition” in the subject line.

The trust said it hopes for a smoother outcome than the famous 2016 public vote that produced “Boaty McBoatface” for a UK polar research ship.
