A branch of bakery chain Wenzel’s in Ealing Broadway has been given a food hygiene rating of zero – meaning “urgent improvement necessary” – following an inspection by Ealing Council.
The shop at 35 The Broadway, W5, was inspected on 10 February 2026 under the Food Standards Agency’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. Inspectors assess businesses in three areas: hygienic food handling, the cleanliness and condition of facilities, and the management of food safety systems.
The result marks a significant drop from the bakery’s previous inspection in October 2024, when the premises received a rating of four, indicating good hygiene standards at that time.
Food hygiene ratings range from zero to five. A score of five means standards are very good, four indicates good hygiene standards and three means standards are generally satisfactory. Lower scores indicate problems identified during inspection: two means improvement is necessary, one major improvement necessary, and zero urgent improvement necessary.
The Ealing Broadway branch opened in February 2021. Wenzel’s The Bakers was founded in 1975 and has grown to more than 100 branches across London and the Home Counties.
Wenzel’s has been approached for comment.
