Residents shape Acton improvements with £80k fund

Acton is set to become the first of Ealing’s seven towns to benefit from a new Ealing Council initiative that gives residents a say over how local improvement money is spent, after £80,000 was earmarked for community-chosen projects.

The initiative, called Your Voice, Your Town, was set up by Ealing Council to bring together people from across each town to agree priority areas and deliver visible changes in their neighbourhoods. In Acton, residents were asked to vote on what mattered most locally, with “making the town cleaner and more pleasant” emerging as the most popular option.

A “town team” was then formed, including residents and representatives from businesses, faith and community groups and councillors. The team invited applications from residents, community groups, local organisations and schools, and has now selected a first round of projects to receive funding.

Supported projects range from litter-picking and clean-up events, with backing for the Acton Litter Collective to widen participation, to youth-led work with the 14th Acton Scout Group. The scouts will take part in clean-ups, improve the surroundings of their hut and learn how to care for local areas.

Other projects focus on greener streets and public spaces, including new planters and paving on Mill Hill Terrace, and nature-based improvements such as planting new lime trees to support wildlife. Smaller street upgrades are planned too, including restoring planters on Goldsmith Avenue and creating a new rain garden on Noel Road. Community gardens and family-led projects are also among those receiving support.

Peter Truesdale, an Acton town team member, said: “I am proud to be part of Acton’s town team and help allocate our community fund to those projects which will have the greatest impact on the Acton community.”

Councillor Blerina Hashani, Ealing’s cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “The range of projects being funded in Acton is exciting.”

Applications in Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt and Perivale are being reviewed, while Southall’s funding round remains open until 8 March 2026.
