Deirdre Costigan, the Labour MP for Ealing Southall, has welcomed the government’s new funding allocation to Ealing Council, describing the £131.8m as a “cash injection” for essential services.
The government said the 35% rise in the council’s spending power forms part of a wider shake-up of how English local authorities are funded.
Ms Costigan said: “This £131.8m cash injection for Ealing will make a real difference to people’s everyday lives by boosting the services we all rely on.”
She added: “It means more money for our high streets, our parks and libraries, and for keeping our streets clean.”
Ministers said the changes would direct more money towards areas with greater need.
Steve Reed, the secretary of state for housing, communities and local government, said: “This is a turning point, a chance to turn the page on a decade of cuts and callousness, and for local leaders to invest in getting back what has been lost – to bring back libraries, youth services, clean streets, and community hubs.”
