Hanwell radio station launches Xmas toy appeal

A Hanwell-based community radio station has launched its annual Christmas Toy Appeal to bring festive cheer to children spending the holiday season in hospital.

Westside Radio 89.6FM is marking the seventh year of its campaign, which collects toys for donation to children’s wards at Hillingdon, Northwick Park and West Middlesex hospitals, as well as to local charities and youth centres across the local area. Donations will be accepted until 5 December 2025, allowing time for sorting and delivery before Christmas.

The appeal, which began in 2018, has grown into what organisers describe as a “much-loved West London tradition”. Gos, presenter of the station’s Weekend Get Up show, said the response from listeners and local businesses was consistently heartening.

He said: “We started the appeal back in 2018, and it’s amazing to see how it’s grown. Every year, the generosity from listeners, local businesses, and our partners is incredible – we get so many donations it can be hard to get into the studio from reception.”

The initiative is supported by several local organisations, including Ealing Street Dance Academy, Cake Co, Ealing Half Marathon, and Westside Talent.

Anyone wishing to donate or get involved can contact the station via toyappeal@thisiswestside.com or call 0208 574 4113.
