Hanwell Carnival fundraisers aim to secure future

The organisers of the Hanwell Carnival have launched a series of fundraising events in a bid to bring the much-loved community celebration back to the calendar in 2026.

After a year’s hiatus, the carnival committee is aiming to raise £15,000 to secure the event’s future.

Its next fundraiser, a Silent Disco, will take place on 8 November 2025 at the William Hobbayne Centre, featuring three music channels including a live DJ set. The evening, which is sponsored by The Fox pub, will see doors open at 6pm for drinks and headset collection, with dancing from 7pm until 10pm. All proceeds will go towards the costs of staging next year’s carnival.

First held in 1898, the Hanwell Carnival is thought to be one of London’s oldest community festivals. It was suspended for 2025 following a difficult financial period. Des McManus, the event’s treasurer, said the committee had to pause the carnival “as we needed to recoup some financial losses from the last two to three years and were worried about the long-term viability of holding the event”.

Mr McManus said the team had so far raised just over half of their £15,000 target through earlier fundraisers including a family fun day and a quiz night. He said: “We have been delighted to see the response and get a feeling of just how much the Carnival means to the residents of Hanwell.”

The committee is also seeking grants and donations to help close the funding gap.

In addition to the silent disco, organisers are planning a Christmas Fair at The Green W7 pub on 29 November 2025, featuring craft and gift stalls, children’s entertainment, fairground games and festive treats with mulled wine and mince pies.

Tickets for the Silent Disco can be bought in advance through the carnival’s website: hanwellcarnival.co.uk/silentdisco
