Trailfinders Women’s Megan Jones shortlisted for top award

Ealing Trailfinders Women star Megan Jones has been shortlisted for the World Rugby Women’s 15s Player of the Year 2025, one of the most coveted honours in the sport.

The England centre is one of three nominees, alongside Canada’s Sophie de Goede and New Zealand’s Jorja Miller, with the winner to be announced at the Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham.

Jones has been central to England’s campaign, starting in 11 of their 12 matches this year since returning to 15s rugby after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Whether scoring tries — including a brace in the record win over Samoa — or producing vital tackles and turnovers, her all-round influence has made her one of the standout performers of the tournament.

World Rugby chair Brett Robinson said: “This remarkable Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 has demonstrated the very best of our game. At the heart of its success are our players, the stars of the show.”

Barney Maddison, head coach of Trailfinders Women, praised Jones’ nomination: “Meg is an immense player. She’s a formidable leader on the pitch who lifts everyone around her; she’s been central to so much of what England have achieved at the World Cup so far. To see her nominated is no surprise – it’s simply recognition of the world class player and person she is. She’s someone we cannot wait to see in a Trailfinders shirt this season.”
