West Acton Primary School has been named a Microsoft Showcase School for 2025–26, joining a global network of institutions recognised for their pioneering use of technology in education.
The accolade marks the culmination of an 18-month digital strategy focused on transforming teaching, learning and operations. Staff received extensive training, with five teachers becoming Microsoft Innovative Educators, while headteacher Karen Kondo completed an apprenticeship in digital leadership.
Ms Kondo said the award reflected the collective effort of the school community: “It has been an exciting journey of growth and innovation, made possible through the support of the governing body, the commitment of the staff and above all, the pupils’ willingness to learn, enthusiasm for new ideas, and brilliance in embracing this transformation.”
According to Ms Kondo, the school has embedded digital integration across subjects, with every Key Stage 2 pupil now using their own device and younger pupils accessing shared technology where it meaningfully enhances lessons. Tools such as Immersive Reader and Translator are supporting pupils with special educational needs and those with English as an additional language, widening access and independence.
Digital literacy and responsible use of technology are woven into the curriculum, from online CV writing to producing videos and even creating songs with AI. Staff also use real-time data to track academic and pastoral progress, ensuring interventions are timely and effective.
Aligned with Department for Education technology standards and government guidance on generative AI, the school said it is positioning itself at the forefront of digital transformation. As part of the Showcase Schools network, it will now host visits and share best practice with other institutions nationwide.
