Current Ealing Central & Acton MP, Dr Rupa Huq has been reselected to be the Labour candidate for the next General Election.
Dr Huq, has held the constituency which includes Acton Central, Ealing Broadway, Ealing Common, East Acton, Hanger Hill, South Acton, Southfield, and Walpole wards since 2015.
In a tweet, she said: “Huge thanks to constituency Ealing, Acton and Chiswick Labour party members. ALL 8 wards have reselected me to fight next General Election as
@EalingLabour candidate in ballots in past week. Let’s focus on #GeneralElectionNow and @UKLabour UKLabour govt nation is crying out for”
The next election, which some political pundits have said may not be until 2024, will be the fourth that Dr Hug will have contested in Ealing for Labour.
In 2015, she won narrowly against incumbent Angie Bray by getting 22,002 against Bray’s 21,728 votes. In 2017, she got 33,037 votes against ex Ealing Councillor and now Conservative MP for Beaconsfield Joy Morrissey 19,230 votes.
In the most recent election of 2019, Dr Huq won against Ealing councillor and now local Conservative leader Julian Gallant by getting 28,132 votes to his 14,832 votes.
