Twelve high streets across London — including West Ealing — are set to receive a £50,000 injection each as part of a new £600,000 package from City Hall aimed at revitalising local economies.
Ealing Council told EALING.NEWS its focus will be on revitalising Uxbridge Road, The Broadway and the area around West Ealing station, with the £50,000 to be spent by March 2026.
The funding, announced by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, last week (11 July 2025), comes under the High Street Place Labs (HSPL) programme and is part of the Mayor’s broader commitment to “protect, restore and improve London’s high streets”. It aligns with the ambitions set out in the London Growth Plan to boost productivity and inject more than £100bn into the capital’s economy.
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, an Ealing Council spokesperson said: “We want our high streets to be the thriving, vibrant centrepieces of our seven towns. We will use this funding to reimagine how commercial spaces in West Ealing are used.
“We will work closely with residents, community groups, landowners, and businesses to collectively produce a plan which finds innovative uses for empty shops and offices, supports the creation of good, well-paid jobs, and influences new developments in the neighbourhood. This will complement the work we and our partners are already doing to make the area an even better place to live.”
The Mayor said: “I’m determined to protect, restore and improve London’s high streets – which is why I’m so pleased to provide this new funding for boroughs across the capital that will help them grow and thrive.
“My High Street Place Labs programme plays an important role in driving progress on the London Growth Plan, which will deliver economic growth in every corner of our city to raise living standards, put more money in people’s pockets and enable us to invest in our public services.”
Other boroughs are planning projects such as greening and pedestrianising East Ham High Street in Newham, enhancing Islington’s nightlife and celebrating Barking and Dagenham’s cultural heritage.
