Hardeep Bahra, a teaching assistant at St John’s Primary School in West Ealing for over 30 years, has been named a Silver Winner in the Pearson National Teaching Awards, recognised as one of the UK’s most outstanding teaching assistants.
In her more than three decades at the school, Mrs Bahra – who lives in Greenford – has supported thousands of children, leaving what colleagues say is “an imprint on their hearts”.
The national recognition puts her in the running for the coveted Gold Award for Teaching Assistant of the Year, to be announced later this year on BBC One’s The One Show.
Mrs Bahra said: “Being named a silver award winner is an incredible honour that reflects the heart of why I teach and help the children at St John’s.”
She is one of 95 individuals and institutions honoured this year for their impact on young people’s lives.
Nalisha Patel, head of school, said: “We are incredibly proud of Hardeep’s achievement and now being in the running for the final later this year truly is testament to her hard work, commitment and dedication to the St John’s community over the years.”
