Brilliant new move for famous Southall restaurant

After 50 years of serving up its legendary dishes, the iconic Brilliant Restaurant on Western Road in Southall will close its doors on 7 April 2025. But fans of the famous curry house need not worry as the new Brilliant Gastro, is set to launch with an “evolving” menu in mid-April at Southall’s The Green Quarter.

Founded by Gulu Anand in 1975, and with his daughter Dipna Anand taking over as head chef and owner, Brilliant has been part of the Southall community serving up Punjabi cuisine with a Kenyan influence.

The popularity of the restaurant has seen a loyal following from not just locals but also people across the world and even His Majesty King Charles III naming it one of his favourite places for curry.

The new restaurant will open in Parkside Yards, which is part of property developers Berkeley Group’s The Green Quarter.

Ms Dipna said: “It may be the end of an era for Brilliant Southall, but after 50 years, the Brilliant brand has gained an iconic status in Indian dining, and we have to ensure that it is constantly evolving to both reflect the preferences of diners, and the food I love to eat, so there’s something delicious for everyone.

To mark its closing, Brilliant Southall will be hosting a special amazing closing night special set menu dinner on 4 April 2025. The menu will include some of its classics including karahi gosht, masala chicken as well as its renowned samosa chaat will be served.

As well as running Brilliant, Ms Anand has grown her business interests over recent years. In 2023, she opened Dipna Anand Kitchen and Bar at Unity Place in Milton Keynes, in collaboration with Compass Group and in 2024, she took over the kitchen at The Plough in Norwood Green.

Outside of restaurants, Ms Anand’s catering is available at a number of venues including Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, OVO Arena Wembley, Allianz Stadium and The Kia Oval Cricket Club.

Marcus Blake, managing director, St George which is part of the Berkeley Group has welcomed the new restaurant. He said: “Dipna Anand is such an iconic chef, and welcoming her to Parkside Yards signals a huge milestone for the evolution of The Green Quarter.”
