Police arrest 154 drink-drivers in Ealing

A Freedom of Information Request (FOI) has revealed that the Metropolitan Police arrested 154 drink-drivers in Ealing last year.

The data obtained by law firm Legal Expert showed police arrested 3,759 drink-drivers in the capital last year (2023/4) and more than 12,500 over the past three years.

Neighbouring borough Hillingdon saw the highest number of arrested drink-drivers with 193 people while Brent saw 169, Hounslow had 142 arrests and Hammersmith & Fulham was at 82. The London borough with the lowest number of drink-driver arrests was Kensington and Chelsea with 49.

Around 69% of those arrested by police for drink-driving resulted in a charge or summons.

The findings come as latest figures from the Department for Transport revealed UK drink-driving deaths have risen to 300 a year which is a 13-year-high.

Tracy Chick from Legal Expert said: “Drink-driving is such an avoidable offence and there is no excuse for drinking and getting behind the wheel.”

Ms Chick added: “The impact of drink-driving can be devastating not only for victims who have been killed or suffered life-changing injuries but also for the drivers facing serious legal consequences – it is such an avoidable offence and there is no excuse for drinking and getting behind the wheel.”
