Ealing Liberal Democrats are calling on Ealing Council to take action to tackle speeding on Southfield Road in Acton by cars and buses.
Lib Dems have said that locals have been measuring the speed of vehicles over the last five years and found buses and cars exceeding the 20 mile per hour limits causing fatalities.
Southfield Road is connected to Southfield Recreation Ground with children and families crossing the road to access it.
According to the Lib Dems they have made proposals to the council which include putting in a crossing and also electronic speed signs to make drivers aware of their speed.
Leader of Ealing Liberal Democrats and a Southfield Councillor, Gary Malcolm said: “Liberal Democrats say for many years the Southfield Councillors have worked with the local community to monitor and address speeding issues in Southfield Road and it has taken over five years for Ealing Labour to take any notice of this issue. We will be pressing them to clarify funding allocation and delivery for our local communities.”
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, an Ealing Council spokesperson said: “We acknowledge that there is some speeding along Southfield Road especially as it’s a straight and narrow road with parking on one side of the road forcing drivers to race for the gaps when they see large vehicles such as buses in the distance.
They added: “As indicated, we propose to include Southfield Road as part of our submission for funding to TfL for 25/26 for a raised zebra crossing at the build-out at the park entrance near St Alban’s Ave and St. Peter’s church. We are confident that funding by TfL will be available for such measures.”
