Hanwell Town and Evesham United came into this game on Tuesday (24 March 2026) at the Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium just two points apart. The Geordies sat in 13th while The Robins were 17th, an important game for the two teams.
The match kicked off and it was unclear who was on top, the home side looked positive in the midfield, where they won a few free kicks, though nothing troubled the Evesham defence. It was the away side who had the first big chance in the game, build up down the left-hand side saw a cross pulled back to the edge of the box for an unmarked Amer Adwah. He fired a strike that looked destined for the goal, but it flashed just wide of the post, much to Hanwell relief.
The half lacked entertainment, with long-ball football dominating the most of it and the rare build up in the midfield for Evesham cut out by Seidou Sanogo and Edward Cooper of Hanwell. Three minutes were added at the half and The Geordies took full advantage, Luke Cook found some space on the right wing, where he drilled a hopeful ball into the Evesham box, evading all defenders it found the feet of Sanogo, who slotted the ball calmly into the bottom right corner to give the home side the lead at half-time.
The second half got underway and Evesham came out looking for a response, they nearly found it as Roger James latched on to a long ball, beating Hanwell goalkeeper and captain, Sam Beasant, but his looping effort fell wide of the post. Just five minutes later, in minute 59, Hanwell town built up superbly down the right flank; another low cross, this time from Roberto Nditi saw Henry Snee poke the ball home from close range, scoring his first home goal for The Geordies.
The rain then fell at Perivale Lane, but the Hanwell supporters didn’t let anything dampen their spirits. Minute 84 came around and Evesham thought they found a goal to start a late push. The in-swinging corner seemed to be heading directly in, but Beasant sprung backwards and brilliantly pushed the ball over the top.
The match ended 2-0, with Hanwell moving up to 12th and Evesham keeping their spot in 17th. The Geordies manager praised ‘professional win’ as the team had to deal with some tough conditions. The next game for The Geordies is on Saturday with an away trip West, to Yate Town FC, who currently sit in the relegation zone, but Chris Moore doesn’t see the game as an easy fixture and looks towards a ‘tough’ away game.
