A goalless draw against play-off chasing Sholing saw Hanwell Town earn a valuable point on Tuesday evening (31 March 2026) and pull further away from the relegation zone.
Even though both sides hit the woodwork during the closing stages, neither can have many complaints about sharing the spoils from a match that won’t live long in the memory.
Responding well to their 2-0 defeat against Yate Town on Saturday, Hanwell started brightly and looked comfortable for much of the opening exchanges. In his first start in a Geordie shirt, former Oxford United academy player, Ibrahiim Sankoh, looked particularly assured.
After a first half slumber, the game jerked awake in the 53rd minute as some brilliant Hanwell interplay created an enviable opportunity for Ernaldo Krasniqi who fired wide.
A 10-minute Hanwell offensive ensued. Henry Snee had the ball in the net, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside, and Seidou Sanogo had several good opportunities.
The Geordies went closest to breaking the deadlock when Sholing’s Byron Mason misfired clearance hit the post in the 84th minute.
Sholing then nearly completed a smash and grab when deep into injury time, Sam Magri headed a corner onto the crossbar.
Sholing boss, Ross White, said “it wasn’t a great game to watch” but credited his side for taking the point against “a real tough Hanwell side”.
Hanwell return to The Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium on Friday 3 April as they face second-place Gloucester City. Tickets can be found here.
