Grassroots heroes honoured at Ealing Sports Awards

The borough’s grassroots sporting heroes were celebrated last month (17 July 2025) at the 8th annual Ealing Sports Awards, held at William Perkin High School in Greenford. The evening recognised local athletes, clubs, coaches and volunteers across nine categories.

Hosted by Ealing Council, with support from Everyone Active, the awards drew a crowd of community supporters and special guests. Among those presenting awards were the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Anthony Kelly; cabinet member for thriving communities, Councillor Blerina Hashani; and former Great Britain athlete, Jacqui Agyepong.

The most poignant moment of the evening came with the posthumous presentation of the Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award to John Taylor, who passed away in March 2025. Mr Taylor dedicated over 34 years to the Middlesex Football Association and grassroots football. His wife, Gill, accepted the award on his behalf, saying: “I and all the family are extremely honoured. It shows us how highly regarded and respected John was in the Football Community.”
