On 7 May 2026, residents in the Hanger Hill ward will vote to choose who represents them at Ealing Council.
EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing to become a councillor, 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.
Here’s what Kate Crossland, standing for Ealing Green Party in Hanger Hill, has to say:
Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward and why you want to be a Councillor for Hanger Hill Ward?
I’m an NHS doctor with a passion for community work and saving the planet! I’ve always felt that if you can you should be involved in your local neighbourhood and be trying to work to make things better. I’m lucky to be able to work part-time which means I can get involved with the local community. Being a Councillor would be a great way to be able to do more to try and improve our local area. My priorities would be to start with a listening ear and get to know the whole ward, and then to think about how we make difficult decisions together in times of financial pressures. I also love community events that bring us all together and I’d love to try and support more schemes like PlayStreets.
What motivates you?
After my daughter was born I thought a lot about the way the world would be as she grew up, and I’ve worked in different ways- both in my personal life and through work, and the Green Party- to try and give her generation a better future.
What is your own personal connection to Hanger Hill?
I’ve lived in Hanger Hill for nearly twenty years, and it very much is home. I’ve been involved with local schools, both as a parent and now as a governor. I also was until recently the chair of a local residents association. I’ve been lucky to get to know a lot of wonderful people in the area, and I feel a real connection to the ward.
What do you consider to be your top 3 political, work or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
I’ll pick one from each!
Politically, I helped run the Council election campaign for the Ealing Green Party during the last election. I learnt so much and feel it’s put the party locally in a great position to achieve real change.
In my work, I’ve set up a scheme to improve the environmental impact of healthcare, and was at a conference last month celebrating the first winners of our environmental awards, and sharing the ongoing impact.
Personally, I have learnt to run in the last year and have found it a great way to support others to start- especially by pointing out you can be slow and still run!
What do you consider to be the top 3 challenges Hanger Hill faces and how will you as a councillor address them?
The pressures on Council funding mean residents are feeling the impact on every service- from education, to social care, to street cleaning. The first challenge I’d like to address is making sure resident voices are truly heard, and I’d want to meet and hear as many views and experiences as possible. I’m keen to see even more progress on improving our air quality, as it links to so many areas of health. Appropriate development is a hot topic across Ealing, and I’d work to strengthen requirements for meaningful consultation and infrastructure improvements so we all benefit.
What do you love about Hanger Hill and the borough of Ealing?
I love that you get the sense of being in a big city but also in a smaller community both at the same time. So you have all the wonderful different cultures, but combined with the quietness of being a bit out of the centre. And all the green spaces!
How accessible will you be to Hanger Hill residents and how can they get in contact with you now and if elected how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?
I’ll make sure residents hear from me with regular newsletters, and I’ll be keen to attend as many local events as I can fit in. I’m thinking about a ‘run the ward’ challenge where I try to run every street in my first 3 months elected! For now, you can get hold of me via Ealing Green Party’s website.
