Vicar’s Green Primary School welcomes James Murray MP

Ealing North MP, James Murray, visited Vicar’s Green Primary School in Alperton last Friday (23 May 2025) to celebrate the environmental work being led by the school’s Eco Team.

During the morning, Mr Murray met with pupils, as well as headteacher Iman Basu-Roy, school governor Asad Choudhury, assistant headteacher and Eco Team Leader Angela Lydon and members of staff who support the school’s gardening club.

Pupils showcased their involvement in key sustainability initiatives including Earth Hour and Earth Day along with as organising a whole-school outdoor learning week.

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Mr Murray said: “I was very glad to meet the pupils in the Eco Team at Vicar’s Green Primary School, and to hear about their excellent work on the local environment.”

He added: “I enjoyed answering all their questions and having the chance to speak about my work in Parliament on issues including air quality, as well as the Government’s mission to deliver clean power in Britain. I would like to send a big thank you to all the pupils, staff, and school governors for their warm welcome, and for an educational and inspiring visit to the school.”

A highlight of the visit was a tour of the school’s garden, a project initiated by the students themselves. What began as a student-led initiative to improve the school garden has grown into a space featuring a compost area, bug hotels, bird baths, bird feeders and wind chimes.

Ms Lydon said: “It was a real privilege for our Eco Team to share the work they’ve been so passionate about with MP James Murray. The visit gave our pupils a genuine sense that their voices matter and that they can make a difference. Seeing their efforts recognised and planting flowers that symbolise resilience and hope was a powerful moment—not just for them, but for our whole school community.”

Mrs Basu-Roy added: “It was truly inspiring to have James Murray MP visit our school and spend such meaningful time with our pupils. I particularly appreciated how attentively he listened to their views and ideas. I’m confident this visit has empowered our children to recognise that their voices matter and can contribute to real change.”
