Three Ealing Wetherspoon pubs win top toilet award

Three Wetherspoon pubs across Ealing have been recognised for the quality and upkeep of their toilets in the Loo of the Year Awards 2025, a national scheme that assesses public washrooms across the UK.

The Greenwood Hotel in Whitton Avenue West, Northolt received a platinum plus rating, the second highest grade available. Inspectors awarded platinum ratings to two other Wetherspoon pubs in the borough, The Red Lion and Pineapple on Acton High Street and The Sir Michael Balcon in The Mall, Ealing.

The annual awards aim to improve standards in public and commercial toilet facilities. Inspectors make unannounced visits to thousands of locations, including pubs, cafes, transport hubs and visitor attractions. Each washroom is assessed on criteria such as cleanliness, maintenance, accessibility, design, handwashing provision and overall management.

Toilets judged to be acceptable or above are graded bronze, silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond. Facilities that fail to meet basic standards receive no grade.

Ben Johnston, manager of the Greenwood Hotel, said: “We are delighted with the grading. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”

Becky Wall, managing director of the Loo of the Year Awards, said: “The toilets at the three pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained. The pubs deserve their gradings.”
