An exhibition opening in Ealing this week will offer a rare insight into one of the least understood parts of the NHS by exploring the experiences of people with dementia and their families in mental health wards.
Coming Together in Crisis will be held at OPEN Ealing in Dickens Yard from 3 to 5 July. It forms part of the FIND ME study led by Ealing’s University of West London, which is examining the experiences of people before, during and after admission to dementia mental health wards.
The exhibition features photographs, personal objects, written reflections and artwork co-created with people affected by dementia, alongside a programme of public workshops.
Professor Emma Wolverson, Professor of Ageing and Dementia at UWL, said the exhibition aimed to raise awareness of services that many families only encounter during a crisis.
She said: “By working in partnership with people with dementia, families and staff, we have co-created an exhibition that brings these often-hidden experiences into the open.”
