A century after the first homes were built on Costons Avenue, residents came together last month (27 June 2026) to celebrate the Greenford street’s 100th anniversary with a day of history, food and festivities.
Costons Avenue was established in 1926 as Greenford expanded. The original centenary homes are numbers 1 to 42 and 702 to 710, while the remainder of the street was built during the 1930s.
Around 100 residents, guests and passers-by attended the celebration, organised by a group of neighbours who spent months planning the event, meeting weekly in homes and local venues while coordinating through a WhatsApp group.
Historical photographs, maps, books and flood records gave visitors a glimpse into the avenue’s past, while residents Eve and Alfie shared memories of the street and recalled the floods of 1977.
The celebrations also included the Costons Bake Off, with nine entries inspired by the centenary. Visitors voted for their favourite cake, with local Theresa taking first place after impressing judges and fellow residents.
