Food supplier fined over £160,000 after rats found in warehouse

A food supplier operating from two warehouses in Park Royal has been fined more than £160,000 after Ealing Council inspectors repeatedly found evidence of rat infestations and contaminated food storage.

Goodies Foods Mediterranean Ltd and its director Taofik Rabah admitted seven food safety offences at Ealing Magistrates’ Court after being taken to court by Ealing Council last month (16 February 2026).

The company operated from two premises in Park Royal — Sabre House in Gorst Road and A B L House in Bashley Road — where inspections uncovered widespread evidence of rats.

Council officers first visited the Gorst Road warehouse in August 2024 during a routine food hygiene inspection. They reported rat droppings on pallets, food packaging and floors, and saw a rat running across metal beams above stored food. Some packaging had been gnawed and contents eaten.

A Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice forced the business to close. Further visits in September 2024 found the rodent problem unresolved and the site remained shut until improvements were made the following month.

However, inspectors returning in March 2025 again found rat droppings on jars, tins, pallets and boxes of condensed milk.

At the Bashley Road warehouse, officers carried out a series of inspections between June 2024 and March 2025, repeatedly identifying rat droppings and structural issues that allowed pests to enter.

The company was fined £140,000, ordered to pay £9,000 in costs and a £2,000 victim surcharge. Mr Rabah was fined £7,000, ordered to pay £2,469.70 in costs and a further £2,000 victim surcharge.

Kamaljit Nagpal, cabinet member for decent living incomes at Ealing Council, said: “Food stored in facilities infested with rats is just not fit for human consumption. I am very pleased that the court recognised the seriousness of these offences and imposed appropriate fines.”

Councillor Nagpal added: “The council’s food safety team works hard to protect residents and support businesses to meet the standards expected. Where businesses fail to keep food safe, the council will take robust enforcement action.”
