Ealing Labour name candidates for 2026 Ealing Council elections

Ealing Labour has revealed the majority of its candidates for the 2026 Ealing Council local elections, naming selections in 20 of the borough’s 23 wards as the party moves to position itself ahead of next year’s poll (7 May 2026).

Three wards, Ealing Broadway, Hanger Hill and Southfield, currently have no named Labour candidates and EALING.NEWS has reached out to Ealing Labour to ask when candidates for these wards will be announced.

Several sitting councillors have been selected to stand in different wards this time. Gareth Shaw, who represents Walpole, will contest South Acton in 2026. He replaces fellow Labour councillor Josh Blacker, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for a fairer start, who is not standing.

In Northfield, Councillor Kim Kaur Nagpal has been chosen to stand in Southall West. Labour has also moved two councillors into Lady Margaret. Praveen Anand, who currently represents Ealing Common, and Monica Hamidi, who represents Hanwell Broadway, will stand there next year.

The reshuffle results in significant changes in a number of wards. Ealing Common will have three new Labour candidates. Hanwell Broadway will have one new name, with Alex Dismore joining returning councillors Yoel Gordon and Polly Knewstub after Hamidi’s move.

Other incumbents not appearing on Labour’s 2026 lists include Claire Tighe in North Hanwell, Shahbaz Ahmed in Central Greenford, former Mayor of Ealing Mohinder Midha in Dormers Wells, Varlene Alexander in Greenford Broadway, Ilayda Nijhar in Pitshanger and Kate and Daniel Crawford in East and North Acton. Chris Summers in Northolt Mandeville, Surinder Jassal in Southall West, Kamaldeep Sahota in Lady Margaret, Sarfraz Khan in Southall Broadway and John Martin in Norwood Green are also not standing.

One of Labour’s new candidates is Andrew Bailey, who will stand in Northolt Mandeville. Bailey previously ran twice as a Conservative candidate. He contested the Perivale ward in the 2022 Ealing Council elections and again stood in the 2024 Northolt Mandeville by-election.

In several parts of the borough, Labour will maintain its existing line up. Perivale’s sitting councillors, Munir Ahmed, Tariq Mahmood and Charan Sharma, have all been reselected. Southall Green’s councillors, including council leader Peter Mason, will also return as candidates.
