Ealing joins national Blue Badge awareness campaign

Ealing Council and its in-house waste, environmental and parking enforcement services company, Greener Ealing Ltd (GEL), are taking part in National Blue Badge Awareness Week as part of efforts to tackle the misuse of disabled parking permits across the borough.

The campaign, running from Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May, aims to protect the Blue Badge scheme, which allows disabled people to park closer to services, workplaces and healthcare facilities.

Greener Ealing has been providing parking enforcement services on behalf of the council since April 2024.

Ealing Council said Blue Badge fraud remains a significant issue locally, with 159 people successfully prosecuted for misuse since April 2025. According to the council, the cases resulted in more than £31,000 in fines and more than £100,000 in council costs.

One of the most recent cases saw a man ordered to pay more than £1,000 after being caught using a stolen Blue Badge.

Tony Singh, Assistant Director of Sustainable Transport at Ealing Council, said: “The message is clear: if a blue badge has not been issued to you, do not use it. Even if misuse is claimed to be a mistake, it can still result in prosecution.”

Graham Footer, chief executive of Disabled Motoring UK, added: “For many disabled people, the Blue Badge scheme is fundamental to maintaining independence, dignity and confidence when travelling.”

He added: “Disabled Motoring UK is pleased to support the London Borough of Ealing and Greener Ealing Limited during the Blue Badge Awareness Week. Recognising their strong record in protecting the scheme, challenging misuse and standing up for disabled people who rely on accessible parking every day.
