Young people from across Ealing have been recognised for their contributions to local Guiding groups at a ceremony hosted by the Jack Petchey Foundation.
Thirty two Guides aged between 11 and 25 received Achievement Awards at Greenford Assembly Hall last week (20 November 2025) for work described by organisers as strengthening their units and supporting younger members.
The awards scheme provides each winner with a certificate, a medallion and a £300 grant to be spent on a project chosen by the recipient. The foundation, set up by the businessman Sir Jack Petchey in 1999, has invested more than £1.1 million in Ealing since its programmes began. Across London and Essex it has supported more than a million young people through grants, events and youth initiatives.
One of the Ealing recipients was Abigail, 13, who was nominated by leaders at the 4th Ealing Guides. They said she had become a steady presence within the unit, often helping other girls take part in activities and encouraging those who felt unsure. Leaders described her as calm, reliable and someone younger Guides sought out for support.
Speaking after the event, Abigail said: “It was a unforgettable experience that I will always remember.” She plans to use her £300 award to buy an eight person tent for her group.
The foundation said the awards aim to highlight positive contributions made by young people across the capital and to challenge perceptions that their efforts often go unnoticed.
