As the nation came together for Remembrance Sunday on 9 November 2025, residents, clergy, MPs, councillors and the armed forces across the borough commemorated and paid their respects to those who fought for the country in war and to those who died for freedom.
Sunday saw parades and services to honour Remembrance Day in Greenford, Southall and Ealing with local councillors, MPs and leaders from Ealing Labour, Ealing Liberal Democrats and Ealing Conservative political parties attending the various events.
In Ealing town itself, a service at Ealing Green War Memorial which is located in front of Pitzhanger Manor by Walpole Park took place.
Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Anthony Kelly, attended the service and parade, Proceedings began with a two minute silence at 11am. Other dignitaries attending included The King’s representative, Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki, London Assembly Member for Ealing & Hillingdon Bassam Mahfouz and religious leaders.
Councillor Gary Malcolm leader of Ealing Liberal Democrats laid a wreath saying: “At this time we think of those who acted to save others to bring peace. They might be gone but they will never be forgotten.”
Posting on X, Dr Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central & Acton said: “An honour be at Ealing #RemembranceSunday and lay a wreath to commemorate the courage and ultimate sacrifice of those who gave all for the freedoms we cherish today and salute all who continue to serve. Moving multi faith service and rousing parade including cadets.”
Councillor Julian Gallant, leader of Ealing Conservatives told EALING.NEWS: “My own father fought in WW2 so for me it’s yesterday, not just history. Remembrance brings all of us together to honour men and women who’ve died in armed conflicts across the century. It’s a profoundly moving tribute in our borough, with services in Ealing, Southall and Greenford towns. We must never forget!”
Leader of Ealing Council, Councillor Peter Mason said: “Remembrance Sunday reminds us of the values that bind us together: duty, service, and solidarity.”
In Greenford, the Remembrance Sunday parade marched from the Royal British Legion to the war memorial outside the Greenford hall for a public service at 11am. The proceedings were supported by the local Jalaram Mandir Greenford, Bilal Masjid, Scouts, Cubs, Guides and Brownies along with a representation of Armed Forces Cadets. Councillors attending included Ealing Council deputy leader and cabinet member for safe and genuinely affordable homes Councillor Louise Brett and Councillor Faduma Mohamed.
Posting on X, local Councillor Aysha Raza said: “#Greenford came together to remember, District @scouts @Girlguiding did us proud with an excellent parade,@PoppyLegion & @salvationarmyuk hosted an excellent service in the evening. Huge thanks to organisers who work hard to make it all happen every year. #RemembranceSunday.”
While in Southall, residents gathered at the Southall War Memorial at The Green,Southall at 10:45am, ready for a service at 11am. Afterwards all those attended were invited at nearby St John’s Church in Church Avenue for a short ceremony and refreshments. Councillors attending included former Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Hitesh Tailor and Ealing Council cabinet member for tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, Councillor Jasbir Anand.
Local Councillor John Martin shared his thoughts on X, posting: “People from #NorwoodGreen & #Southall came together on #RemembranceSunday to remember our fallen heroes. Many thanks to all those from communities across #EalingSouthall who took part in & helped to put on this event.”
Ealing Southall MP Deirdre Costigan also shared her thoughts on X following the service in Southall: “This morning in Southall, we came together to honour those from around the world who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. We will remember them.”
