As the UK comes together on Monday 27 January to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2025, with its theme ‘For a Better Future’, residents in Ealing are being invited by Ealing Council to attend a ceremony in Perceval House at 11am.
The ceremony will be led by the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Yvonne Johnson who will be joined by guest speaker Seymour Kelly sharing his mother’s Holocaust story.
Children from local schools in Ealing will also be reading Holocaust pledges and there will be laying of stones to commemorate and pay respect to those who lost their lives.
Local dignitaries will also be attending including The King’s Representative Deputy Lieutenant, Richard Kornicki CBE, Rabbi Hershi Vogel from Ealing United Synagogue, Rabbi Miri Larence from Ealing Liberal Synagogue, Imam Mujeeb Mirza from Darus Salaam Mosque in Southall and Father David Neno, Area Dean of St Peter’s Church in Ealing.
Due to limited spaces, Ealing Council is advising locals who wish to attend to arrive by 10:45am.
Leader of Ealing Council, Councillor Peter Mason said: “Eighty years on from the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp, and 30 years on from the genocide in Bosnia, we come together to remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, as well as the millions more who were victims of Nazi persecution and other genocides.”
Councillor Mason added: “In order to create a better future, we must look to the past. There is no place for antisemitism, discrimination and hate in today’s society. Within the borough and beyond, I hope we can come together to learn from these tragic moments in history and create a better future where people are not suffering prejudice or persecution because of their faith, ethnicity or other characteristic.”
