The RSPCA is recruiting new animal rescue officers in London, with the roles covering boroughs including Ealing, as demand for frontline animal welfare work continues to rise.
The animal welfare charity said the recruitment drive is aimed at strengthening its inspectorate in the capital and in other areas experiencing increased reports of cruelty, neglect and abandonment, including Essex and Hertfordshire.
Animal rescue officers investigate reports of animal mistreatment and rescue animals that are sick, injured or stranded. The role can involve challenging conditions, including working at height, in confined spaces or on water, and successful applicants are required to complete a swimming assessment as part of their training.
The recruitment drive comes as the RSPCA launches a winter fundraising appeal, following a 19% rise in reports of animal abandonment in 2025 and applications close on 6 February 2026.
Successful candidates will work across multiple London boroughs, responding to incidents involving domestic animals and wildlife in urban environments.
RSPCA superintendent Simon Osborne said: “This is a difficult job which needs a resilient character but there are also many magical moments, such as removing animals from a situation where they are suffering and seeing them heal, physically and mentally.”
He added: “Often by helping an individual you can rectify an issue to improve animal welfare.”
