Ealing Hospital, part of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) has become the latest hospital in the country to reduce unnecessary glove use on its hospital wards.
The initiative aims to save the trust hundreds of thousands of pounds a year and be more environmentally friendly by not using gloves for tasks that don’t need them. These include tidying bed spaces, helping patients with food and drink and taking patients vitals.
The scheme was pioneered in London by Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2019 and in its first year 21 tonnes of plastic was saved.
In Ealing the initiative will be running across six wards including intensive care units.
