China Bistro brings Indo-Chinese cooking to Ealing

An Indo-Chinese restaurant group with branches across India and the United Arab Emirates is opening its first UK site in Ealing Broadway this autumn. China Bistro, which will be located at 5-6 The Green, is set to open next month (October 2025) on the former site of the Meadow restaurant, which was previously home to Carluccio’s.

Founded in 2003 by Sanjay Vazirani, the group has built its reputation around what it describes as “retro-Chinese” cooking, rooted in India’s Kolkata Tangra district. It was there, in the 1930s, that Hakka Chinese immigrants began combining wok-frying techniques with India’s spice-led cuisine. The result was a distinctive hybrid style that remains popular across south Asia and the Gulf.

Mr Vazirani said: “We’re delighted to bring China Bistro’s authentic Tangra experience to London. This launch marks our first step into the UK market and builds on two decades of expertise across our international portfolio.”

The 90-cover restaurant will feature olive-green interiors inspired by ancient Chinese warriors, with an open kitchen and live dim sum counters designed to create a lively atmosphere. The menu will span momos, robata-grilled meats and wok-tossed dishes, including chicken basil dumplings, Mao’s favourite chicken and edamame momos with truffle oil. Desserts such as honey-drizzled darsaan nod to the chain’s Indian roots.

Drinks will include cocktails with names such as The Great Wall and Wild China, alongside jasmine teas and wines selected to complement the spice-driven food.
