Primary school children at two Northolt schools will receive free breakfasts and 30 minutes of childcare before lessons as they return for the autumn 2026 term.
Free breakfasts will be available from this week to children at Viking Primary School in Radcliffe Way and primary pupils attending Alec Reed Academy in Bengarth Road.
Open to all pupils from Reception to Year 6 regardless of family income, the clubs will provide breakfast before lessons. Nursery and secondary pupils are not included.
The two schools are among 1,400 joining the government’s free breakfast clubs programme across England this term, including 196 in London. The breakfasts will be provided alongside the free lunches already available to primary school children across the capital under the Mayor of London’s universal primary free school meals programme.
Viking and Alec Reed will bring the number of Ealing schools taking part in the breakfast programme to five, joining Acton Gardens Primary School, Wolf Fields Primary School and Three Bridges Primary School.
A London Labour spokesperson said: “Breakfast should never depend on how much money is left in a parent’s bank account at the end of the month.”
The government estimates that families using a club every school day could save up to £450 per child and receive around 95 hours of childcare over the school year.
