Ealing’s University of West London marked International Women’s Day last week (8 March 2026) with a series of events across its campuses, celebrating women’s achievements while highlighting ongoing inequalities.
At the London College of Music, performances, talks and a panel discussion explored the role of women in the music industry. Composer Dani Howard was among contributors, alongside student and visiting musicians performing works by female composers. Litha Efthymiou, senior lecturer in composition, said the programme aimed to both celebrate success and raise awareness of barriers in the sector.
The School of Computing and Engineering focused on women in STEM, with PhD researcher Mariya Ivanova’s work selected for a Royal Society of Chemistry International Women’s Day collection. Professor Anastasia Sofroniou also attended a local event at Ark Acton Academy.
Meanwhile, UWL’s Westmont Enterprise Hub hosted a discussion for entrepreneurs. Angela Kanwar, interim executive director, said: “It was an evening of honest conversation, meaningful connection, and fresh perspective celebrating the impact of women lifting others while building their own futures.”
