Ealing North MP James Murray inspires Brentside students

Ealing North MP James Murray paid a special visit to Brentside High School in Hanwell last week (9 May 2025), where more than 120 students gathered to quiz their local member of Parliament about the workings of Westminster and the key issues facing their community.

The audience included Year 10 GCSE citizenship students, as well as Year 12 pupils studying government & politics and history. Having prepared questions in advance, the students were eager to ask Mr Murray about the role of an MP, his priorities for Ealing North and how young people’s voices can be heard and better engaged in politics.

Brentside High School described the visit as an inspiring opportunity to bridge classroom learning with real-world political experience. As part of the ongoing commitment to active citizenship, the school also announced that two of its government & politics students will join Mr Murray for a two-week summer placement, offering a deeper insight into democratic processes.

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Brentside High School assistant headteacher and subject leader for citizenship, Mel Rosenblatt, said: “We are committed to preparing our students to be active citizens empowered to make a positive difference in society.”

She added: “This was a fantastic opportunity for students to bring their classroom learning to life. Citizenship is a core value at Brentside High School. We are delighted that two of our Government and Politics students have the opportunity to attend a two week placement with James Murray in the summer.”
