Ealing Council has revealed that a new street-cleaning initiative has carried out more than 1,300 cleaning tasks across 71 locations in the borough since being introduced in May.
Known as Tidy Teams, they supplement the council’s regular scheduled cleaning and completed 1,313 jobs during their first four months.
The work included 983 litter clearances, 100 additional sweeping jobs and 159 clearances of reported wet leaves. The teams also carried out 71 other cleaning jobs.
The council said 894 of the reported issues were dealt with within seven days, with the remaining 419 completed within 14 days.
As well as jet washing pavements and bins and removing weeds, leaves and other debris, the Tidy Teams can be sent to deal with reported problems including fly-tipping or provide extra cleaning where needed.
A programme of jet washing has started in Southall and is due to move to other parts of the borough.
Councillor Dominic Moffitt, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “More than 1,300 jobs done in 4 months, most within a week. That’s what happens when residents tell us where the problems are.
“I would encourage residents to continue reporting street cleansing issues so that we keep sending the tidy teams where they’re needed.”
