Metropolitan Police have arrested and charged a prolific shoplifter following weeks of investigation into repeated thefts at Greggs on Greenford Broadway.
The Greenford Broadway Safer Neighbourhood Team said the action followed concerns raised by residents about shoplifting through the Met Engage priority survey. Officers began working closely with staff at the store, who had reported daily thefts ranging from single food items to multiple products.
Employees logged each incident, recording what was taken, the estimated value and descriptions of suspects. One regular offender, known to staff by the nickname “Hamster”, was linked to dozens of incidents.
After reviewing the retailer’s Auror reports, officers identified 93 alleged thefts connected to the suspect, totalling £3,611. PCSO James Tupman gathered CCTV evidence relating to 38 offences worth almost £2,000 and later identified the suspect as Adam Gosling. PC Sellars obtained statements from staff.
Gosling was arrested on Tuesday (10 February 2026) at the rear of Greenford Broadway, taken to Heathrow custody and charged. He was remanded in custody yesterday (11 February 2026).
PCSO James Tupman said: “This result is the direct outcome of strong partnership work with Greggs staff, who have been exceptionally proactive in recording offences and supporting our investigation. The volume of thefts had a significant impact on the business, and our officers worked tirelessly to gather evidence, identify the offender, and put long-term measures in place to prevent reoffending.”
Metropolitan Police said they are now working with Ealing Council partners to pursue a Criminal Behaviour Order aimed at preventing further offending and encouraging engagement with addiction support services.
