West Ealing Library, now operated by local volunteers, is to host an open day from 10am to 4pm on Saturday (5 April 2025) to promote its role as a community hub and gather public input on its future use.
The event, organised by the library’s volunteer committee, aims to highlight the growing importance of community-led services in the borough of Ealing. It will also serve as a platform to consult residents on potential activities and developments that could shape funding proposals and long-term plans.
Since 2019, the library has been run by the local community. It was initially managed by Ealing and Hounslow Community Voluntary Service and then in 2024, OPEN Ealing ran it until Christmas 2024. Since then, West Ealing Community CIC (a community interest company), a West Ealing based not-for-profit organisation has been in negotiation with Ealing Council to take over the running of the library.
A varied programme has been planned for the open day which includes live music, spoken word performances and children’s activities. Akuba aka Councillor Grace Quansah, director of Writing Acting & Publishing Project for Youngsters (WAPPY) will also be doing a storytelling session.
There will also be a consultation area where attendees can share ideas for how the library might better serve local needs.
A number of local organisations will be attending including West Ealing Neighbours, Friends of the Earth, West Ealing Green Spaces and officers from the local police team.
Organisers hope the event will encourage greater involvement and support from residents, as well as provide valuable feedback on how the library can adapt to changing community needs.
