A Southall grandmother has won an award for setting up a food hub for local families at the Havelock Community Centre in Southall.
Lyn Hutchinson, 70, who has volunteered for a decade was recognised for her work and won the community champion award at the G15 Community Impact Awards.
The G15, a group of London’s largest housing associations including A2Dominion, Clarion Housing and Notting Hill Genesis, held its first Community Impact Awards last week (5 February 2025) to recognise residents who make a difference to their local community.
Mrs Hutchinson, who lives in a A2Dominion property, wanted to address the issue of local residents struggling with the cost of living crisis.
She said: “I’m humbled by winning the award. It gives me a warm feeling inside, knowing I am helping people. It is heartbreaking sometimes seeing parents come in and the look on their faces when they know they are going to be able to feed their family that night. That’s what makes the hard work worth it”
Dawn Wightman, A2Dominion’s director of customer & communities said: “The G15 Community Impact Awards are a way to thank and recognise the achievements of volunteers, residents and community organisations who have gone above and beyond to help others.”
Ms Wightman added: “These are the people that help to make our communities great places to live, and it’s important we get the chance to celebrate them. Congratulations to Lyn, and everyone involved, we’re proud of your incredible work.”
