February 2025 screening and community updates from ActOne cinema in Acton

Acton’s ActOne’s February 2025 programming is packed with great films and community events.

Showing from Saturday 1st February are many Oscars nominees: Maria, a glamorous Maria Callas biopic; A Complete Unknown, a charismatic Bob Dylan biopic; The Brutalist, a monumental historical drama about Hungarian Jewish architect László Tóth; A Real Pain, a resonant dramedy about two mismatched cousins travelling to Poland to honour their beloved grandmother; Vermiglio, a hauntingly beautiful period tale of family life; Rocco and His Brothers, a compelling 1960s tale of love and tested loyalty (in the 65th anniversary restoration).

From Friday the 7th of February, we will be screening Mike Leigh’s contemporary portrait of family life, Hard Truths; a tense drama set during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, September 5; an experimental documentary and origin story, Becoming Led Zeppelin; and Academy-Award frontrunners Conclave and The Brutalist.

From Friday the 14th of February, the programme offers Valentine’s Day special deals and more fresh films: Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, a 30th-anniversary of Before Sunrise, and a tense portrait of generational trauma, Bring Them Down.

From Friday the 21st of February, new additions include an inspirational true story The Fire Inside, a highly entertaining documentary I Am Martin Parr, a gripping dissident drama The Seed of the Sacred Fig, and a restoration of a revolutionary Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles for one weekend of 22-23 February.

To honour the visionary filmmaker David Lynch, join us for the mini-programme of three of his films: Mulholland Drive, Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet, showing between Monday 24 and Thursday 27, please refer to the website for times and dates of specific screenings.

Monthly Board Games Night is on Wednesday, 5 February from 6 pm. All enthusiasts and levels are welcome, free of charge.

On the same night, the first showing of Macbeth: David Tennant & Cush Jumbo is sold out, with additional screenings on Monday 17 February and Saturday 8 March – tickets are selling fast.

A dark folk Slovenian duo 3:rma will perform a live concert at the Lounge on Thursday, 6 February at 7:30 pm – tickets are £5.

Friday, 7 February at 7 pm offers a brilliant Untitled Comedy, founded and moderated by Ryan Denham: ten stand-up comedians, one prize for the audience member. Entry is free, donations are welcome.

On Wednesday, 12 February at 6 pm, attend the monthly short film night, Sound & Vision. Tickets are only £7 for short films of all genres shown on a big screen, followed by meet and greet and networking drinks at the lounge afterwards.

Sunday, 16 February at 3 pm will belong to the IRIS PRIZE: Best Of 2024 + Heroes, Heartbeats and Shorelines – a selection and celebration of global LGBTQIA+ short films.

National Theatre Live: The Importance of Being Earnest is a joyful reimagining of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated comedy – Thursday 20th is sold out, book the encore on Sunday, 2nd March at 12:30 pm.

Royal Ballet & Opera presents another LIVE broadcast performance for one night only – Swan Lake with sensational ensemble and Tchaikovsky’s iconic score. Thursday 27 February at 7:15 pm. It is a ballet classic, enjoyed exceptionally on the big screen.

On Thursday 27 February, we host our popular free Open Mic Night. Sign up from 7:30, performances start at 8 o’clock on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be acoustic performances, comedy, poetry, magic, spoken word and more.

Our weekly accessible screenings are Carers & Babies Club Tuesdays, Hard of Hearing closed-captioned screening Wednesdays and Relaxed Screening Thursdays.
