Ealing girls’ school receives national science teaching award

Notting Hill & Ealing High Junior School has received a national award recognising the quality of its science teaching.

The school has achieved the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM), which recognises standards in science leadership, teaching and learning.

Assessors praised the way pupils develop scientific skills throughout their time at the school, highlighting how Year 6 pupils are able to carry out fair and comparative tests independently.

Science teacher Ghajinder Bansal said: “At Notting Hill & Ealing High School, science plays an important role in encouraging pupils to ask questions, think critically, investigate ideas and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

“This achievement reflects the dedication and professional commitment involved in continually developing science teaching and learning for the benefit of pupils.”

The school, which is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, said a third of its Sixth Form students study science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) subjects at A-Level, while 53% go on to study STEM-related courses at university.
