Ealing businesses urged to create 100 opportunities for young people

Businesses across Ealing are being urged to offer apprenticeships, work experience and job opportunities to young people as part of a campaign aiming to create 100 opportunities by the end of November.

Ealing Council launched its 100 Opportunities Campaign Pledge last month (18 September 2026), calling on employers across the borough to provide opportunities for young residents. The campaign runs until the end of November.

The campaign includes apprenticeships, work experience and six-month job placements, with West London Chamber of Commerce backing the initiative and encouraging businesses of all sizes to take part.

Under the government-funded Youth/Jobs Guarantee scheme outlined by the council, businesses can host an 18-to-24-year-old for a six-month placement, working 25 hours a week.

The council says the young person is paid at National Minimum Wage by the government, while employers are reimbursed for costs including salary and associated National Insurance and pension contributions, as well as onboarding costs such as IT equipment, software licences and personal protective equipment where required.

Councillor Kamaljit Kaur Nagpal, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for decent living incomes, told EALING.NEWS: “We want every young person in the borough of Ealing to have the opportunity to develop the skills, experience and confidence needed to succeed in the world of work. The 100 Opportunities Campaign is a call to local businesses to work with us to create meaningful pathways into employment for young people, whether through work experience, apprenticeships or job opportunities.

“While the borough has one of the lowest rates of 16 to 17-year-olds not in education, employment or training in London, we know too many young people aged 16 to 24 are still looking for work. By working with employers we can help more young residents gain valuable experience, access employment opportunities and build successful careers. I strongly encourage businesses across the borough to make a pledge and be part of this important initiative.”

Businesses can also offer apprenticeships and work experience, while employers making a pledge are being offered free Bronze Membership of the Ealing Borough Apprenticeship Scheme, including recruitment and workforce planning support and promotion of vacancies.

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Elsa Caleb, chair of West London Chamber of Commerce, said: “West London Chamber of Commerce endorse Ealing Councils 100 Opportunities Campaign which will help provide routes into work, apprenticeship and work experience for young people within the Borough. Businesses have an opportunity to help shape future workforces and benefit their own businesses.

“Employers large and small should look at what they can offer their local community be it apprenticeship schemes, work experience or just getting involved with the campaign. It’s a great way to get your business out there and promote the London Living Wage and other fair working practices. It benefits the business sector by filling skill shortages and building a better work force.

“The Chamber would love to see more business get involved with the 100 Opportunities Campaign and help our local young people reach their full potential.”

The campaign also encourages businesses to become accredited London Living Wage employers.
