Residents across Ealing will be able to get rid of bulky household items for free as seven community clear-out days are to be held across the borough.
Ealing Council is planning one event in each of the borough’s seven towns — Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt, Perivale and Southall — during the 2026/27 financial year, with all seven due to take place by the end of March 2027.
The initiative follows a trial at Featherstone Terrace car park in Southall in March 2026, where 800kg of unwanted household items was collected.
Of that, 520kg was taken to Greenford Road Reuse and Recycling Centre for recycling, while another 280kg was collected for reuse by Collect4Reuse.
Residents will be able to bring up to five bulky items free of charge, including furniture, mattresses, beds and washing machines. Bicycles, toys, books, clothing and small electrical items will also be accepted.
Ealing Council said the pilot scheme is part of measures agreed in the council’s 2026 budget aimed at tackling fly-tipping, which also include cheaper bulky waste collections and additional CCTV cameras.
Councillor Dominic Moffitt, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “Many of the items people no longer need still have plenty of life left in them. By reusing and recycling as much as possible, we can keep valuable materials out of the waste stream and give thousands of items a second life.”
The service is for Ealing borough residents only, who may be asked for proof of identity and address. Commercial and trade vehicles will not be allowed to use it.
Residents can find out when a clear-out day is coming to their area by signing up for Ealing Council’s email updates and selecting their town.
