A grass fire covering around a hectare of Horsenden Hill prompted a major emergency response on Saturday (11 July 2026), with six fire engines and around 40 firefighters called to the scene.
The blaze, on Horsenden Lane North in Greenford, broke out in several areas across grass and shrubland. Firefighters also deployed a drone and a specialist terrain support vehicle to help tackle the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
London Fire Brigade received the first of six emergency calls at 4.35pm and mobilised crews from Wembley, Ealing, Northolt, Park Royal, Acton and Harrow fire stations. The fire was brought under control by 6.09pm.
The incident comes as the brigade warns the risk of wildfires across London is currently “severe” because of prolonged hot, dry weather, with vegetation more likely to catch fire and flames able to spread quickly.
Disposable barbecues are banned in Ealing’s parks and open spaces. The council is also urging people to dispose of cigarettes responsibly, avoid leaving glass bottles behind and take litter home if bins are full.
Ealing Council said it has stepped up patrols in parks and open spaces, is cutting long grass earlier than planned and has created firebreaks in higher-risk areas to help reduce the risk of fires spreading.
Councillor Lauren Wall, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “Given the prolonged hot and dry weather, wildfires can start and spread rapidly and I’d like to thank London Fire Brigade for responding quickly on Saturday.
“While council teams are taking action to reduce the risk, residents can also help by following fire safety advice – especially around not using barbecues in our parks and open spaces or leaving bottles around.”
