Alec Reed Academy in Northolt has opened a new £1 million outdoor learning centre funded by its founding sponsor, Sir Alec Reed, who died last December.
The new facility, unveiled on Thursday (9 July 2026), will be used for lessons, environmental projects and other outdoor activities by pupils across the school. It was funded through a £1 million investment by Sir Alec, the recruitment entrepreneur who founded Reed.
Students, staff, community leaders and supporters attended the opening ceremony, where they were shown around the new learning space and took part in a programme of activities.
Phil Cosby, principal and CEO of Alec Reed Academy, said: “The centre is far more than simply an attractive green space. It has been designed as a dynamic outdoor learning environment where students can develop environmental awareness, enhance their wellbeing, acquire practical life skills and connect with the natural world.
“Everyone at the academy is absolutely delighted to see this outdoor learning centre come to life, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Sir Alec Reed.”
